Does Vegetarianism Cause Eating Disorders?
Interesting post.

As someone who has tried nearly every form of extreme dieting, I know that whether it's vegetarianism, raw foodism, or the atkins diet, it was always a way to mask the underlying compulsion that was my eating disorder. That experience has made me sensitive to those on extreme diets and the search for quick fixes.
Although not every person on a restrictive has an eating disorder, I suspect a fair amount have other compulsions besides food.
Also, those who are compulsive about their diet may not think they're "restricting" themselves of anything, but when asked the following questions, their answers may have them pause in self-reflection and that's a good thing!
- Are you thriving on this diet?
- How are your relationships with others not on your diet?
- Are you able to think clearly and focus when you want to?
- Is your energy stable throughout the day?
Food is our fuel, and just like we want to provide our cars with the best possible fuel for performance, we want to feed our bodies with a similar mindset.
Thankfully, I'm on the other end now helping those with eating disorders and other addictions live a happy, healthy and more fulfilling life.
